Who was the Arsenal player Clem Voysey?

Clem Voysey was an Arsenal player who was endlessly tracked by the Football Association who were desperate to show that there was something amiss with his signing by Arsenal.  Not because they disliked the player, but because he was signed while Henry Norris was at the club.

In fact not only was nothing ever proven, when we look at the evidence, nothing was ever suggested.  There was never anything wrong about anything that Clem Voysey did, or that Arsenal did in relation to Clem Voysey.  He was a player of some talent and promise who was brought into the club, but suffered a series of injuries that ended his career.

He made 37 appearances for Arsenal and should have played many more times.  But… and this is why his name particularly lives on, he was hounded by the FA and subject to two separate investigations, neither of which showed that anything was ever amiss with his signing, his salary or anything else.  If ever there was a case of persecution of a player, it was Clem Voysey.

Here are the anniversaries…

6 February 1926: Last game for Clem Voysey.  His transfer to Arsenal was investigated by the FA in 1925 and again in 1927 in a desperate attempt to show that something was wrong with Henry Norris’ administration of the club but no charge was ever brought against the player, the club or Sir Henry Norris.

  1. Hi
I think the piece on Clem Vosey is at odds with the 2011 article on your site, about the same player, which I just happened to come across when I googled his name.
