Arsenal Are Top of the League – But Can They Get the Job Done?

Arsenal are top of the Premier League. Find out why this could be the year they go all the way.

Arsenal have opened the 2025/26 Premier League season in commanding fashion. After seven matches, they sit top of the table with five wins, one draw, and just one defeat. Their attacking verve and defensive discipline have impressed fans and pundits alike, reigniting belief that this could be the season they end their long title wait.

What stands out most is their defensive solidity. Arsenal have conceded only three goals in their opening fixtures, making them one of the league’s stingiest sides. It’s a continuation of the resilience Mikel Arteta instilled last season, but this time with added maturity. The Gunners are managing games more intelligently, showing composure under pressure and grinding out results when necessary.

Goals Shared Across the Team

In attack, Arsenal’s strength lies in their variety. New signing Viktor Gyokeres has made an instant impact, bringing physicality and finishing prowess, while Bukayo Saka continues to evolve into one of the Premier League’s most productive forwards. Saka recently scored his 55th league goal for the club, marking 100 goal involvements in the competition, a remarkable achievement considering his age.

Alongside him, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, and Noni Madueke offer width, pace, and creativity, while Martin Zubimendi’s composure in midfield gives the team balance and stability. The combination of fluid forward movement and tactical organisation gives Arsenal multiple ways to win.

The Challenge of Injuries

However, not everything is perfect at London Colney. Injuries have been a problem since before the season began, and they could derail momentum. Captain Martin Odegaard returned from one injury but is now out with another, while Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Noni Madueke are all sidelined. New signing Piero Hincapie has been unavailable with a groin injury, while Declan Rice continues to manage back pain.

With Arsenal competing on multiple fronts, squad rotation, managing fatigue and returns from injury will be key. Arsenal improved their squad depth, but that’s already being eaten into with their current list of injuries.

Rivals Closing the Gap

Liverpool and Manchester City remain the biggest threats, and both are expected to chase Arsenal as the season progresses. Pep Guardiola’s side, while not flawless, have the experience of not only managing these races, but beating Arsenal to the finish. Liverpool, the reigning champions, aren’t at their fluent best, and their back-to-back league defeats are evidence of this. But, they will come good, and when they do, they will be right on Arsenal’s tail.

The pressure will only intensify as the winter period approaches. Arsenal’s ability to handle that pressure, mentally as much as physically, will determine how long they can stay ahead. The title race is a marathon, not a sprint, and their composure during challenging stretches will define whether they are truly champions in waiting.

Verdict

For now, Arsenal have the momentum, confidence, and quality required to get the job done. Their defence looks solid, their attack is more varied, and their tactical identity is clear. Even the latest Premier League betting shows confidence in Mikel Arteta’s side.

But history has shown how quickly things can change. Injuries, fatigue, and the weight of expectation have undone promising Arsenal sides before. But with past experiences in mind, if Arteta can control the controllables and be savvy, this could finally be the year Arsenal are crowned champions of England once again.
