31 October: A new record crowd and a win over Tottenham.

It was in fact 31 October 2009: Arsenal made it five league wins and a draw in the last six by beating Tottenham 3-0 at home with a record Emirates crowd (at the time) of 60,103.  Van Persie (2) and Fabregas got the goals.  The club had also made it nine wins and two draws in 11 games in all competitions thus far.

As a result the table now looked like this…

Team P W D L G A GD Pts
1 Chelsea 11 9 0 2 28 8 20 27
2 Manchester United 11 8 1 2 23 11 12 25

4 Tottenham Hotspur 11 6 1 4 21 17 4 19
5 Liverpool 11 6 0 5 25 16 9 18

There had been a slip earlier in the season, but Arsenal now seemed to have recovered…

Those two defeats in Manchester had led to a lot of newspaper headlines suggesting that Arsenal had in the opening four games against “weak opposition” flattered to deceive, but Arsenal’s forward line which had by now scored 32 goals in ten league games were way ahead of the rest of the pack.
